The sculpture had lost its lustre due to the break down and wind abrasion of its protective wax coatings. Additionally, the work had begun to lose its carbon black patina in areas due to sitting water and biological material. Once affected areas had been degreased and selectively patinated, the work was re-waxed and buffed to restore its high lustre and original intended aesthetic.
